YPN Professional Development
Please join our Young Professionals for Professional Development on Tuesday, February 21st, 12:00pm-1:30pm at Hampton Inn.
Our guests will be Tim Sweeny, Superintendent from School District 7 and Dave Venezuela, Superintendent of 3 Rivers School District along with their Deputy Superintendent, Casey Alderson.
Tim Sweeney is a native Oregonian. He was born and raised in the Rogue Valley, and is a graduate of Medford Senior High. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees at Southern Oregon University and began teaching eighth-grade history in Eagle Point in 1996. Superintendent Sweeney is a third-generation teacher & superintendent, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, James, and his father, Don.
Tim and his wife, Jennifer, who works as a principal in the Eagle Point School District, have four children. All four are public school graduates. They have one grandchild and are thrilled to be back in southern Oregon to spend more time with family.
Driven by a desire to make the school experience the best it can be for all students, Superintendent Sweeney says he loves coming to work each day and working with great people who share the same goal.
Dave Valenzuela has spent 40+ years within the Three Rivers School District. As a student he started first grade at Selma Elementary, Lorna Byrne Middle School and graduated in 1991 from Illinois Valley High School. From there, he has worked in the maintenance department, held classroom classified positions, spent time as a building administrator, a district office director, and now as Superintendent since 2016. Superintendent Valenzuela has shown time and again his incredible ability to stay focused on what is most important- meeting the needs of every single one of our students. He knows Josephine County: the families, the students and the community in a uniquely intimate way.
Growing up in the small town of Cave Junction, like some of the students that he serves, in a bi-racial family with a father that worked with his hands. He knows the struggles our families and students face because he experienced some of those same struggles. TRSD has 4 out of the top 5 highest poverty density zip codes in Oregon, and Superintendent Valenzuela has fought for each one of those students from day one. His constant dedication to his own lifelong learning and the education of our youth is an inspiration to others. Superintendent Valenzuela is the longest serving superintendent in Southern Oregon, providing consistency and dependability in an ever changing educational environment.
