DESCRIPTION:MEDFORD\, Ore.\, January 10\, 2025   The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest will host a community meeting to share information about proposed changes to the Northwest Forest Plan January 29\, from 6-8 p.m.\n\n\n\nThe public is invited to join and learn more about the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.\n\n\n\nMeeting Details:\n\n  What:        \n\n Community meeting on proposed changes to the Northwest Forest Plan   \n\n\n\n  When:        January 29\, 2025\n\n  Where:    \n\n Medford Interagency Office\, 3040 Biddle Road\, Medford\, OR 97504\n\n\n\n  Time:         6-8 p.m\n\n\n\nThe Northwest Forest Plan was created in 1994 to conserve habitat for wildlife and forests while supporting local communities. \n\n\n\nAfter nearly 30 years\, the Forest Service is amending the plan to address today's challenges\, including wildfire risks and economic needs. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) explains these proposed changes and is open for public comment until March 17\, 2025.\n\n\n\nSome of the key focuses of the updated plan include:\n\n  Reducing wildfire risks to communities and forests\,\n\n  Supporting local economies with sustainable timber and restoration work\,\n\n  Adapting to a changing climate to increase resiliency to extreme weather events\, including droughts and wildfire\,\n\n  Honoring trust responsibilities to tribal governments and communities by involving them in land management planning and implementation of forest management practices.\n\n\n\nAt the meeting\, you can:\n\n  Speak directly with Forest Service staff and experts who worked on the plan\,\n\n  Review detailed maps of the area and proposed updates\,\n\n  Pick up easy-to-understand fact sheets to take home\,\n\n  Learn how to share your thoughts during the public comment period.\n\n\n\nWhy Your Voice Matters Public input helps shape the final version of the plan.
