21st Century Fire Management- Building a Better Relationship with Fire

Join us for a series of informative talks at different local venues, this one at Climate City Brewing Company in Grants Pass, Or. Richard Fairbanks, local fire expert, will present a historical approach about Southern Oregon's relationship with wildfire and how to use it as a tool to protect homes and communities while maintaining forest health and resiliency.

During this fire season, take some time to learn about how weather, past land management, and the geology of our region shapes our relationship with fire. After the 1-hour presentation join in on a community discusion and together we can discuss the best practices that land managers and homeowners can use to work with fire as a tool for community safety and forest health.

Fire expert Rich Fairbanks lives locally in the Applegate and has over 40 years of experience in Wildfire Management. He has had a number of positions inside the U.S. Forest Service including his position as the Team Leader for the Biscuit Fire Recovery Project after the 2002 fireSummer 2018 fire season has further evidenced that prescribed fire is an essential and underutilized tool to reduce forest fuels around our homes and communities. Years of fire suppression facing the era of climate change necessitate efforts to build a better relationship with fire.
