We need your help to clean up our forest roads and make our community safer.
Josephine County Search and Rescue, in conjunction with BLM, Josephine County Solid Waste Committee, Forest Service, would like to talk to you about the hazards of trash. Why are first responders concerned with trash? Well, the specific trash that we are concerned with are the numerous abandoned vehicles, burned out motorhomes and other such bulky and heavy types of items that are filling our forest roads. The hazards come in when we are called to a search, but our snowcat rig, ATV's, and other vehicles have no place to pull off or to turn around because of such debris. We all become "blocked in" in the process. We recently had to back our snowcat truck and trailer 3 miles down a forest road because of the garbage in the areas that would have made turning around possible. This situation can significantly slow our response time for those in need, and potentially put our people at risk as well.
Because of this need, we are teaming up with the Forestry Department, BLM, law enforcement and YOU, members of our community, to have a "Forest Road Cleanup Day" on October 14th, where we will have the people and equipment needed to clean out identified problem areas. We are working to be a part of the solution to an issue that anyone who ventures into our forests is very much aware of.
Volunteer and help be a part of the solution.
