Joint Accessible Tourism & Arts Stakeholder Meeting
Invitation to Joint Accessible Tourism & Arts Stakeholder Meeting – Nov 19
On behalf of SOU professor Dr. Pavlina McGrady and the Southern Oregon Consortium for Accessibility in the Arts (SOCAA), we would like to invite you to a joint stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, November 19, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Josephine County Library, Grants Pass Branch. This meeting will focus on improving accessibility both in tourism and the cultural arts across Grants Pass and Southern Oregon.
Dr. Pavlina McGrady and her team will present key findings from their research on accessibility in Southern Oregon, supported by a Travel Oregon grant. After the presentation, we will host a discussion to identify regional priorities related to accessibility in tourism.
Additionally, SOCAA will introduce its mission of working with local cultural arts organizations—such as theater arts, visual arts, music, and literary arts—to enhance access services. SOCAA's work includes collaborating with regional arts groups, providing education and training on disability awareness, and developing a pool of service providers (e.g., audio describers, caption operators, ASL interpreters) to support arts organizations. Together, we aim to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment, where everyone—regardless of ability—can enjoy the communal experiences of cultural arts and tourism.
This joint meeting presents a unique opportunity to discuss how we can collectively improve accessibility in both tourism and the arts, benefiting visitors and residents alike. Your input and participation are essential in shaping Grants Pass as an inclusive destination and cultural hub.
