RV Symphony Presents: Melissa White Plays Price
What's Interesting: Violinist Melissa White, along with her colleagues in the Harlem Quartet and wind quintet Imani Winds, won a Grammy for Best Classical Compendium in 2024. White and the Harlem Quartet, along with jazz duo Chick Corea and Gary Burton, won their first Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition in 2013. 150 years after its composition, George Bizet’s Carmen remains a household name. This concert features two orchestral suites featuring famous music from the opera such as the Toreador March and the Habanera. Florence Price’s first violin concerto was written in 1939 but was never performed in her lifetime. The piece was not discovered until 2009 when the owners of Price’s former summer home found a pile with dozens of manuscripts, including two violin concertos written by Price.
