Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive ~ Postal Carriers
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is again set for its traditional second Saturday in May—May 9. The drive is the nation’s largest single-day food collection effort—last year, it gathered 72.5 million pounds of food, the 11th consecutive year the drive surpassed 70 million pounds, bringing the total to more than 1.3 billion pounds since the national drive began in 1992.
On the second Saturday of May, residents are asked to put out by their mailboxes bags of non-perishable food donations, which letter carriers will collect as they deliver mail along their postal routes. The goods are then sorted and distributed to local food banks and pantries in more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states as well as U.S. jurisdictions.
