Weed Wrangle Grants Pass is a volunteer event aimed at removing invasive plants from a BLM trail that is adjacent to Griffin Park. We will be removing Scotch Broom from this site as well as other invasive plants as we discover them. Scotch Broom forms dense monocultures, drowning out our native plants and is a problematic ladderfuel for wildfires. According to an Oregon Department of Agriculture study from 2014, Scotch Broom causes over $40 million in economic losses to Oregon annually.
We will meet at the picnic structure for a briefing on the plants and tools we will be using and then work for 2 hours before returning to the structure for snacks. Parking permits have been donated by the JoCo Parks Department for 20 vehicles.
