Engineering Technician

The Engineering Division oversees capital projects that build and repair the roads and utility infrastructure that you use every day.  This is not a job where you will be sitting behind a desk all day, in addition to several large City capital projects you will be inspecting in the field, the public infrastructure for private developments.
 
The Engineering Technicians inspect and monitor construction of public works and private development to ensure compliance with approved plans and construction standards.  The position also reads and interprets construction plans in conjunction with actual construction, monitors construction milestone testing, and advises developers, contractors and engineers of requirements needed to pass inspection.  These important tasks help ensure that infrastructure installed today will continue to serve our community for decades to come.
 
An example of tasks performed by the Engineering Technician include:  

•          Conducting field inspections
•          Construction plan review
•          Facilitating community meetings, pre-construction and pre-bid meetings
•          Basic contract administration for construction projects
•          Preparing capital budgets
•          Work with consultants
•          Ability to read and review construction plans
 
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associate’s Degree and two years of construction and/or public works field inspection and/or civil engineering design experience are required; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field and one year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

The City provides education equivalency at the rate of 2 years of directly related experience equaling 1 year of required education. (i.e. an Associate's degree is equal to 4 years of directly related experience.) 

Licensing Requirements: (positions in this class require):

  • Oregon Driver's License – Class C
