Police Lieutenant

The Grants Pass Police Department is excited to announce an outstanding career opportunity for a motivated and experienced leader to fill a vacancy for a Police Lieutenant.

As a Police Lieutenant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of public safety in our community. Reporting to the Police Captain, you will lead and mentor the Sergeants and personnel within your assigned division, overseeing day-to-day operations and guiding your team toward excellence.

This dynamic leadership position offers the opportunity to influence major initiatives, including directing criminal investigations, solving community challenges, safeguarding life and property, and ensuring the effective enforcement of laws and ordinances. You will also take on responsibilities such as assisting with Internal Affairs investigations, conducting research, drafting municipal code updates, and managing citizen concerns.

In this role, you will represent the Department to City Council and community groups through presentations and public engagement, contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures, and serve as a public information officer. Additional duties include preparing bid documentation and performing essential administrative functions that support the Department’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and six years of related experience including three years of supervisory experience are required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements (positions in this class require):
•Oregon Driver’s License – Class C with an acceptable driving record
•Oregon Police Officer Certificate
•Oregon Police Supervisory Certificate within 1 year of appointment
