About Us
Barnstormers Theatre in Grants Pass, Oregon, is the oldest continuously operating community theater in the state and the sole brick-and-mortar theatre venue in Josephine County. With dedicated leadership and a commitment to artistic excellence, we've garnered a steadfast following. Since 1952, we've nurtured local talent by staging both classic and locally-written works. Our mission extends to all ages and skill levels, offering education and hands-on experience through various volunteer roles and a yearly 4-week youth summer theater camp.
We are a non-profit Oregon corporation with two paid staff - the Executive Director and Productions Coordinator . All others involved in our productions, on stage and behind the scenes are volunteers, working for the love of live community theatre.
Barnstormers, founded in 1952 by Mike Spooner, produced plays in parks, schools, and any other venue they could find. ( even some barns) In 1961, the group purchased a 1925 church building on Evelyn Avenue and converted it into a theatre, paying off the mortgage through ticket sales and private donations. Barnstormers has produced more than 300 plays there in its 72 year history.
We produce six plays per season, which runs from August to June. Our productions case an eclectic mix of genres: from comedy to drama, from family-friendly to edgy, from classical to contemporary. Barnstormers also fosters the theatrical education of all members of the community through workshops and a 4 week summer youth theatre camp.
