JoCo County Youth Tree Plant Event ~ 27th Annual
The ReTree Plant Event is held every February, since 1990. The three day event includes local school children from grades three to five, on Thursday and Friday. And on Saturday local Boy Scouts and volunteers complete up to 5,000 trees each year.
Coordinated by Ross Roe, from Roe Motors and partnering with the Josephine County Forestry Department. Forestry provides the seedlings and digs the planting holes for Ponderosa pine and Douglas firs.
Before planting, the students receive a 45-minute orientation presented by professional foresters. The students over three days plant over 1,000 plants, each child plants five seedlings. Of those five, one is tagged with a students name and the year he or she planted it. Many students return year after year to check on yearly growth.
Alumni "Tree Planters in 27 years is over 20,400 and they have planted over 80,000 trees.
Please consider joining, learning and being part of this program for future years.
